Nintendo and SEGA announce new exclusive partnership
On, Nintendo’s “Nintendo Direct” stream this morning, Satoru Iwata announced that they had signed an exclusive worldwide partnership with SEGA to produce Sonic games only for the Wii U and 3DS. This led to Mr. Iwata making three surprise announcements.
First, the rumored Sonic Lost World is real and they showed a screenshot to prove it. Alas, everyone has to wait until E3 to hear more about the game.
Secondly, Mario & Sonic will once again battle against each other virtually in this winter’s Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. Mario & Sonic Olympic Winter Games will include enhanced snow and ice effects to add some more realism than we have seen in previous Wii U titles. Skiing and Snowboarding make their return to partner with new events like figure skating pairs and snowboard slope style.
Nintendo also promises something called “green events” where gamers get to play in stages built into the worlds of Mario and Sonic. During these “green events” players will be able to replay the events to ski, snowboard, and bobsled on them. The game will also feature special Gamepad controls for certain events and gamers can use the Wii Remote as well.
Finally, Nintendo also announced they would be having more Game Gear titles head to the E-Shop in the coming months, which is a nice treat for many of those youngsters who have no idea what the Game Gear was.
Well, it looks like Nintendo has started on the right path in attempting to make Sonic Games great again, hopefully E3 2013 gives us more great news on these two Sonic games.
