‘Earthbound’ Virtual Release Draws Closer, Rated in Australia
The return of Gigyas and the Chosen Four draws nigh, as Australia has listed its rating of Earthbound for the Wii U Virtual Console.
Now here’s where the pickles start to get fuzzy: the Australian Classification Board has listed Earthbound with a rating of M for mature audiences. (Don’t panic, parents, their M rating is more akin to the ESRB’s “T for Teens” rating.) But in the chart listed above, it lists “crude humor and sexual references.” One can see where the Board is coming from with the “crude humor,” because it has fart jokes which, let’s face it, are almost always funny. But “sexual references?” Maybe I was too young to get them when I first played the game in the 1990s, but I don’t recall any sexual references.
GotGame reached out to BuzzBuzz for comments concerning the rating; BuzzBuzz, however, flew into a panic while shouting “Oh God, this means Pokey’s coming back too!” then crashed into a brick wall.
