After Anonymous shut down the PSN last year it seems we’ve been hearing a little too much about hackers. Nintendo is no stranger to the hacking bug as serious threats put third party help on hold for the original Wii.
With Third Party help already dwindling for the new system, according to Nintendo Insider, a group that made a mod chip for the Wii says they have hacked the Wii U as well.
“We have now completely reversed the Wii U drive authentication, disk encryption, file system, and everything else needed for this next generation key.” … “Yes, it is real and stay tuned for updates!” says a spokesperson for the group.
The group confirmed the hack through a website named Wiikey. They also apparently have some of the Wii U code posted on the website as well. One can only assume that if this is true that means gamers could illegally play Wii U games with burned discs or even without a disc at all.
Nintendo has confirmed they know about this hacker group, but that nothing like what the group describes occurs while in Wii U mode.
