EA Hit with Layoffs

EA has closed down its Mobile Montreal studio.

The closure was confirmed to Joystiq with a statement.

“EA is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile. In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization,” the company said. “These are difficult decisions to let go of good people who have made important contributions to EA, and whenever possible we retrain or relocate employees to new roles. Streamlining our operations will help ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world.”

Overall, about 160-170 people were affected, with 60-70 being permanent employees and the rest working under the contract system.

In addition, it’s been reported EA Mobile Brazil is also being shut down, according to UOL Jogos.

EA knows they’re in the shitter. They boast that despite being voted the worst company in America that people keep playing their games, but then they lay off people. The old regime is falling, slowly but surely.
