Nintendo has been found guilty of infringement by a federal jury in New York due to an inventor’s claim on 3D display technology, related to the Nintendo 3DS.
According to Reuters, inventor Seijiro Tomita, a former Sony employee, sued Nintendo back in 2011, and was awarded $30.2 million today in compensatory damages.
So what exactly was the patent you ask? It basically says Tomita developed the tech to allow for 3D viewing without the need for glasses.
Nintendo’s defense attorney Scott Lindvall argued that the company’s 3D tech for the 3DS does not infringe on Tomita’s patent.
The 58-year old Tomita won’t need 3D glasses to see the wads of cash coming his way.
