Xfire, a popular freeware instant messaging service for gamers, is about to celebrate it’s 10 year anniversary with the launch of “Battleground.” This new service will allow gamers to connect to a free server and play against each other competitively to earn virtual tokens. Players can earn these tokens by completing tasks in one of the many games offered within the service. It allows players to host their own tournaments as a way to show off their skills and earn more tokens. The tokens can then be used in sweepstakes that are held by Xfire. If you’re a PC gamer, this service seems particularly interesting and, well, flat out awesome!

One of the most interesting things about this is that gamers who are interested in getting “discovered” for their talents can participate in the sponsored sweepstakes and even earn prizes for their performance! If you haven’t already checked out Xfire, you should definitely sign up now because the heavy stuff is coming soon.
