Police Called to Investigate Shooting – In a Video Game

LibertyCityPD

San Jacinto Police Department, along with Riverside County sheriff’s helicopters, fire engines and ambulances all converged on the home of a San Jacinto, California man was alleged to be holding hostages near Evans St. and Katrina Lane on the night of February 22, according to a passerby who made the call to 911.

According to San Jacinto PD, there was indeed shooting… within the constructs of a modern video game with realistic sounds. The game players were wearing headphones and did not hear police instruction to come out and surrender. It wasn’t until the father of the players went outside that he realized the “perps” had been surrounded.

San Jacinto PD stated the next day that no charges are likely to be filed on either the players or the caller.

I may be channeling my inner Sherlock here, but how could someone outside hear the sounds from the game if the players were wearing headphones?

I thought the same thing. Unfortunately the report from the Press-Enterprise didn’t say, but I would wager that they were online headsets for gaming/voice chat, not for music/sfx.
