The leading Facebook shooter will be coming to tablets this year.
Cmune, developer of UberStrike has announced new funding from DCM, a venture capital firm, through its Android-focused A-Fund. With the extra backing, the developer is looking to expand the shooter into a bigger tablet market as a free-to-play title and try to make the social game a billion dollar game.
“In the past, the console and PC platforms have given rise to highly successful billion dollar shooter franchises. However, even though there are more tablets in the market than gaming consoles, we have yet to see a breakout success story on mobile. As the leader in the shooter category on social platforms, we see a huge opportunity,” said Ludovic Bodin, CEO of Cmune. “Teaming up with DCM’s A-Fund helps us transfer our success on social to tablets and smartphones.”
UberStrike has been on the Mac App Store for Mac OS for more than a year and has seen more than a million downloads since then. It expects to see another huge boost when the game goes free on iPad and Android devices.
“Following UberStrike’s massive success on Facebook and the Mac App Store, we look forward to helping them expand to new platforms and geographies to build the next billion dollar gaming brand for action games,” said Pete Moran, General Partner at DCM. “The match with DCM’s A-Fund is perfect.”
The game currently has over 10 million registered users. You can check the game out on Facebook here.
