Randy Pitchford’s Post ACM Twitter Adventures.

Alien Colonial Marines has finally launched after a long and troubled development cycle.  The game has received mixed reviews (to be very charitable) and has stirred up a lot of controversy.  Many people are claiming that the demo quality far exceeded the quality of the actual product, which is akin to claims of false advertising.  Alleged employees from Sega and Gearbox have claimed on Reddit that funds were siphoned from Colonial Marines to fund Gearbox’s Borderlands 2.  If true, these allegations would almost assuredly mean legal action.

Amidst this all Randy Pitchford, Gearbox’s very vocal president, has been fairly silent.  Randy reemerged on Twitter to announce that he would be blocking anyone with abusive tweets.  This is fair enough, as we’ve all seen the worst of the internet gaming community, but Randy also seems to be turning a blind eye to some of the more polite criticism out there.  Instead,Pitchford has been retweeting positive tweets.  Some of this sparse praise has come from users with 0 previous posts leading to allegations that these are accounts made solely to promote the product.

It’s an interesting story if you’re a fan or detractor of the game, or just someone interested in how PR works in the age of Twitter.  Check out the full story @ Gameranx.com
