It seems that cutting hardware predictions is the latest fad in the games industry. Nintendo slashed Wii U predictions to 4 million for the fiscal year. Not to be outdone, Sony cut 3 million Vita’s out of their full year predictions. Sony expects now to sell 10 million Vitas and PSPs (Sony likes to combine the two on their reports as they combine the PS2 and PS3) by March 31st.
Sony fans may have rejoiced when Nintendo lowered Wii U forecasts, and Nintendo fans may be tempted to do the same, but let’s make something very clear; this is not good for anyone. The industry’s last 3 major hardware launches, four if you count the PS3, have had tremendous struggles. This is an unhealthy trend that hopefully Microsoft and Sony can learn from with their next gen offerings. Remember guys, games first.
