Satoru Iwata recently had a conversation with Siliconera, in which he discusses Miiverse, the online community for the Nintendo Wii U.
“When we first thought of Miiverse, we were told that it would be a bad idea after considering the likes of social networks such as Facebook and Twitter,” Iwata said. “After doing some more brainstorming, we decided to stick to the idea we wanted to see. The results ended up being something many people enjoy today.”
Iwata also brought up the fact that Miiverse is also coming to the Nintendo 3DS in the near future, while pointing out that Animal Crossing: New Leaf, will be front and center with the feature.
“Once the Miiverse hits the 3DS, it will be huge. Just imagine the possibilities of playing Animal Crossing: New Leaf while sharing your experiences on the Miiverse. Now that’s something!”
Siliconera notes that Animal Crossing has been selling like hotcakes in Japan and has already sold over 2 million units, surpassing New Super Mario Bros. 2.
