Peter Hepworth, the managing director for Activision UK has left the company. Andrew Brown, VP of sales, has taken over Hepworth’s vacated position.
And now back to your regularly scheduled news cast.
All new releases have their fair share of rumors, and GTA V is no stranger to them. PC games, a German gaming website, claims that a German electronics chain called Saturn lists that Grand Theft Auto V is going to launch on March 15, 2013. Rockstar still has yet to release information on when the game is coming out specifically, only giving a vague “Spring 2013” time frame.
Microsoft has acquired R2 studios, a company that works with home automation and entertainment. Specifically the company has patents for using mobile devices to control entertainment software in the home as well as hardware. The company is allegedly being delegated to Microsoft’s XBOX division.
Trion Worlds has started sign ups for it’s Defiance beta. The beta will be on January 18th at 8 AM PST and January 20th at 9 PM PST. Trion world will give players access to a multiplayer map during those periods. You can sign up for the beta at the link below.
Finally, we thought that rumors of used game sales being attacked by next gen consoles were squashed long ago. Golly gee were we wrong. It seems that Sony has a patent application that came out today that would stamp out used game sales. More specifically an RFID ID will be stamped on to new discs which would track their history and link them to one console and one console only. The application was filed by Sony six months after details about the Orbis first leaked back in March of last year.
Here are your questions for the day gamers:
What do you think Microsoft is going to do with R2 studios? Will our home’s be controlled by a Skynet infused XBOX 720?
Also, how do you feel about the news about Sony’s used game hating patent? How would this hurt your like for Sony products (if at all)?
