If you were having doubts about the popularity of mobile devices as Christmas gifts, this report should help clear up those notions. Flurry, a mobile analytics firm have just confirmed that the week between Christmas and New Years was the busiest ever for new device activation and app downloads.
Flurry has determined that 17.4 million Android and iOS devices were activated, and that 328 million apps were downloaded on Christmas Day. By the end of the week more than 50 million devices had been activated and a whopping 1.76 billion apps were downloaded. During the same week last year, Flurry estimated that gadget happy peeps had downloaded 1.3 billion apps.
As you would imagine, most of the downloading came from US shores, 34.4% (604 million apps worth). Peter Farago, the Marketing Vice President for Flurry said “It’s not surprising that the U.S. continues to lead the rest of the world, especially since the fast-closing second place China does not celebrate Christmas.” In comparison, only 132 million apps were downloaded in the UK on Christmas Day.
Don;t expect these numbers to fall any time soon either. Flurry is predicting that 2013 will see even more apps downloaded, maybe even as many as 1 billion per week, and perhaps even more than 2 billion apps during Christmas week.
Were you one of the many millions who activated a new mobile device on Christmas Day? If so, what did you download? Let us know in the comment section below.
