News of Microsoft’s latest acquisition is hitting the airwaves, and it seems as though rumors of Microsoft’s plans to completely dominate your living room are coming to fruition.

R2 Studios, a company that both Apple, and Google have been interested in purchasing, has been snapped up by the suits in Redmond, WA. Blake Kirkorian (the guy who invented the Slingbox), and founder of R2 Studios, has been working on new technology that is ‘related to distributing and displaying media across multiple devices’. What does this mean? Well, it can only mean one thing really, the Xbox 720 will be an absolute beast of a console when it finally hits the market later this year.

It is clear for all to see that Microsoft sees the Xbox as more than just a gaming console, it will in fact be an all-in-one media monster that could potentially change the way we view and store media in modern homes. Microsoft purchasing R2 Studios from right under the noses of both Apple, and Google also shows that MS is taking the fight for the living room right to it’s competitors. 2013 is already shaping up to be a year to remember.
