He wants to be known for more than just the chainsaw-equipped Lancer fromGears of War. That’s fair. So what’s he up to?
Cliff interviewed on G4’s X-Play to talk with the hosts a bit about life post-Epic Games. he’s been doing all sorts of interesting things, including taking a trip to Disneyland and visiting Ubisoft out in Paris. But the lion’s share of his interview talks about his plans for the future and his desires to get back into the gaming sphere.
“It’s not a matter of if…it’s when,” he said when talking about starting his own game studio. He noted that games have been getting easier; he recently picked upThe Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past for SNES and recalled the amount of challenge it offered.”The game was actually challenging…I miss the kind of challenge when games would ask something of players.”
“I just want to create an environment where people can pan for gold,” he said. “You have to trust the process and trust the people involved in the process, and don’t self doubt.” For a guy who’s been working on games I’ve loved since I started gaming in the first place (there’s no telling how much Jazz Jackrabbit or Epic Pinball I played on my old 486), I for one am looking forward to when Cliff steps back into the ring.
Oh, by the way, Cliff’s got a new IP coming around the bend. It’s codenamed “Silverstreak,” and though he doesn’t give any details, I’m sure it’ll be a blast.
