Enter “Destiny,” Bungie’s Follow-Up to Halo
Rumors have flown around about Bungie’s follow-up to the Halo franchise now that 343 took over; leaked art and documents have provided us more detail about their upcoming franchise titled “Destiny.”
IGN posted a story about the franchise, showing leaked photos and referencing documents they were given. The plot summary from the document is as follows:
Our story begins seven hundred years from now in the Last City on Earth, in a Solar System littered with the ruins of man’s Golden Age. A massive, mysterious alien ship hangs overhead like a second Moon. No one knows where it came from or what it’s here for, but only that it’s our protector. Meanwhile, strange, alien monsters creep in from the edge of the universe, determined to take Earth and the Last City. We are young ‘knights’ tasked with defending the remains of humanity, discovering the source of these monsters and – eventually – overcoming it.
The world that Destiny creates is supposed to be accessible to all-ages, perhaps striking the mature chords of Halo less strongly. Even so, the mock-up art they’ve showcased so far looks fairly intense, dark, and foreboding. Bungie wants to create an entire universe with this franchise, one that is “as deep, tangible, and relatable as the Star Wars franchise.” Good luck getting a Destiny Angry Birds, folks.
