Apple and HTC settle, agree to 10-year licensing deal

by on November 10, 2012

Apple and HTC have announced that they have settled their differences both sides are foregoing any further legal action against each other. While we don’t know any details of the agreement as the terms have been kept private you have to believe Apple got not only the better end of the monetary deal but also a significant moral victory in it’s standing with the other smartphone manufacturers that it has been recently battling with. And now for the joint press release:

TAIPEI, Taiwan and CUPERTINO, California—November 10, 2012—HTC and Apple® have reached a global settlement that includes the dismissal of all current lawsuits and a ten-year license agreement. The license extends to current and future patents held by both parties. The terms of the settlement are confidential.

“HTC is pleased to have resolved its dispute with Apple, so HTC can focus on innovation instead of litigation,” said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

“We are glad to have reached a settlement with HTC,” said Tim Cook, CEO of Apple. “We will continue to stay laser focused on product innovation.”

This is either a sign that the so called nuclear smart phone war has already reached it’s zenith and everyone will live happily ever after or it could be a serious shot across the bow of google. Stay tuned folks…
