11 Games to Watch For This Holiday Season, Part 2: The Top 5

Welcome back, GotGamers! Josh Boykin here, bringing you the second part of the Top 11 Holiday Countdown. These 5 games are the heavy-hitters of the season and are bound to sell tons of copies. Odds are at least one of these titles is on your must-have list, and if there isn’t one, you might want to at least rent one so you know what everyone else is talking about. Here we go:

And be sure to check out Part 1

5. Far Cry 3 (X360/PS3)

Release Date: December 4, 2012
It’s been a while since the open-world island environment of Far Cry 2 offered its challenges, but with a brand new antagonist that’s taking center-stage, a co-op multiplayer mode that’ll rope in some players, and Ubisoft’s focus on dynamic storytelling, it’s possible that Far Cry 3 is going to be the sleeper hit of the holiday season.

4. Skylanders Giants

Release Date: October 23, 2012
The Skylanders franchise lit up retailers around the country this past year as kids tore through stores looking for the little action figures they could use as characters in the game. This new release of the game includes the introduction of Giants, massively-sized figures with additional in-game powers. There are also limited-edition figures which light up when placed on the game’s “portal of power” as if lit by magic. Offering a larger world than the last game, Skylanders Giants will be under tons of trees this holiday season.

3. Halo 4

Release Date: November 6, 2012
If you thought Master Chief was done at the end of Halo 3, guess again. Halo 4 starts a new Master Chief trilogy with a brand new villain and some sweet new weapons. Sure, it’ll be more shooty-jumpy action like before, but 343 Studios seems to want to take the franchise in a more visceral direction, as shown by its Forward Unto Dawn live-action miniseries. It’s actually pretty good, and if the game’s quality is as good as the miniseries, then there’s a lot to look forward to.

2. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2

Release Date: November 13, 2012
Activision’s AAA-shooter that’s almost completely bound to be the year’s top-seller, the follow up to Treyarch’s Vietnam-era first-person shooter places you in the near future with new weaponry, vehicles, and technology gone haywire. It also enhances the wildly-popular Zombie mode, with new maps and gameplay styles while taking on hordes of the undead. Still carrying the over-the-top action the Call of Duty series is famous for, there are going to be some long lines for this title.

1. Assassin’s Creed III

Release Date: October 30, 2012
My personal favorite on the list, and the title I have the highest hopes for, Assassin’s Creed III takes the franchise out of Europe and into North America. The American Revolution, George Washington, and a new assassin named Connor set the stage for Ubisoft’s other big Q4 release. With the largest open-world environment the franchise has ever offered, naval battles, free-running in forests, hunting, and even more new abilities, this game’s going to be one of the best of 2012.

That’s the list, folks! Did it come out the way you wanted it to? Anything I missed? Go ahead and comment it up below. Enjoy the rest of Q4!

Not to be a huge fanboy, but it has bee 5 years since being able to play as Master Chief in Halo, and a new studio developed this game from scratch… Yet Blops2 and AssAss’ins beat it out? strange to me
