At TGS last week, Square Enix revealed that Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix is coming to Japan next year exclusively for the PlayStation 3. This week, According to IGN and Business Insider Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix may be coming to America too. Disney CFO Jay Rasulo did not confirm the speculation but he did leave a hint.
“We start the year (he means Disney´s fiscal year, which goes from October to October, right out with a big title “Epic Mickey 2,” and another big title that hasn’t been announced yet, but coming mid-year, and continuing to grow in the social space.”)
None of Disney´s films coming out in that fiscal year will set the video game world on fire. With Marvel´s Avengers: Battle for Earth already been announced for the Wii U launch window it does leave things open for big possibilities.
Let´s think about this for a minute, Kingdom Hearts 1 has sold over 11 million copies to date and is beloved by Gamers worldwide, and has not technically been announced to be coming to the USA yet. Also, the game is set to come out in March 2013 in Japan and it is not out of the question it could become a Western release too. Unless Disney is pulling some “Disney Smash Bros” type game out of nowhere, it just does not make sense for it to be anything else.
In case you do not know, Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix includes the Final Mix version of Kingdom Hearts 1, which was a Japanese only version that had extra content. The collection will also include Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories, with trophy support for both. This means Square-Enix is “Remaking a Remake,” as Chain of Memories was originally a Gameboy Advance Title and then was remade on the PS2. This collection will also include HD cutscenes of the Nintendo DS title “Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days” in Theater Mode.
I really hope this is true because it would be another giant reason for me to go buy a PS3. I also wonder if this means we will eventually get a remake of Kingdom Hearts 2 along with the PSP prequel “Birth By Sleep” in a special collection as well before the PS3 life cycle ends. However, none of this means anything if this remains a Japanese only release. Come on Disney Interactive, Give all gamers the announcement they want to hear already!
