Nintendo Announces Nintendo TVii

Nintendo introduced Nintendo TVii to the world today. Nintendo hopes to bring together all of your television devices on the gamepad and you can use the gamepad as your remote as well.

The gamepad will load Nintendo TVii and then show Favorites, TV (using Hulu Plus, Netflix, and Amazon Instant Video,) Movies, Sports, and a nice Search option too. Gamers can also use their DVR (it shows TiVo, but I assume if they keep saying “Your DVR” they really mean it can be connected to your own personal DVR regardless of the provider.) One touch on the gamepad it will show how to watch what you want and then it can be shown just on the gamepad or on your big TV screen.

You can also personalize the gamepad based on your Mii character as well. So, everyone in the house can have their own personal Nintendo TVii. Nintendo TVii uses a lot of the same things we saw Microsoft implore us to use with “Smart Glass.” If you are watching a show or movie on your television, there is instant access to IMDB and Wikipedia for gamers to learn more information about their favorite shows and movies. This also works with Sports where you can watch a game and it will show you information on the gamepad for you to learn more about the teams or other games happening at the same time.

It may not be available on your smart phone like “Smart Glass” but since you will always have the gamepad in your hand, Nintendo’s version seems to be better integrated to the experience. It looked very interesting when they were showing it off and hopefully they will have more information about it as we near the Wii U launch date.
