G4 To Get Rebranded Starting in 2013
Television’s first and only dedicated gaming channel may be no longer by 2013, according to a report from Destructoid and Variety. NBCUniversal plan to rebrand the channel and cater toward older males that read GQ apparently.
G4 launched on April 24, 2002 and has gone under many changes over the past decade — most notably the merger with TechTV in 2004. While the network had a less than impressive start, they eventually found solid footing with Attack of the Show and X-Play. Those are the only two shows that I watch on G4, so I will forget about the channel if it does turn into another Spike TV.
With most of their game programs cancelled and Kevin Ferrera and Adam Sessler gone maybe we should have seen this coming? It is certainly the end of an era.
