EA Working on New IPs for Next-Gen Consoles

Sure, we may love our sequels, but it’s always exciting to hear about a new IP coming up. EA has confirmed that it’s working on some new IPs, but they’re not going to be released for current-gen systems.

In an interview with Develop, EA President Frank Gibreau talked about their new franchise development in terms of the new systems.

“The time to launch an IP is at the front-end of the hardware cycle, and if you look historically the majority of new IPS are introduced within the first 24 months of each cycle of hardware platforms,” he said. “Right now, we’re working on 3 to 5 new IPs for the next gen, and in this cycle we’ve been directing our innovation into existing franchises.”

Considering how long the PS3, 360, and Wii have been around, I guess it’s not a surprise that we see so many games with 2s and 3s in their titles. Still, it’s good to know that there are companies kicking around new ideas out there and hopefully we won’t have to keep dealing with sequel fatigue for much longer.
