Just when you thought that Square Enix was ready to bring out the next iteration of Final Fantasy…(Were almost up to 15 now???!) We get sideswiped with another surprise. Just announced, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be coming to the 360 and PS3 next year, and based on their past release schedules, my guess will be in late February or March.

The questions that remain about this series are, will the 3rd times a charm rule work here? With the first FF XIII and FFXIII-2 both getting increasingly good reviews, will this version take the best that both of these have to offer and make it the experience that people have been clamoring for since the series first began.

The next installation to the Lightning saga will take place in the location of Navus Partus. We are also informed that Lightning will be more stronger than she was in the first two games. It will be interesting to see if players will be able to use the same character that they had in the first FF XIII but so much information is still unknown. In some aspects it could be frustrating to have to build up your character all over again.

There is also no confirmation to what system that this will release on. But it is safe to assume that it will release on current generation systems since we will most likely not see a new system until 2013. Until then, keep checking in until we get further details and please enjoy the new concept art.
