Runner 2 Runs, Slides, and Jumps Beyond Pixels in PAX Prime Trailer

Nostalgia can be a beautiful thing. In Bit.Trip Runner, a simple platformer developed by Gaijin Games as a part of its Bit.Trip Series, nostalgia was a beautiful thing. Despite the success of that formula, Runner 2 is taking the series in an entirely new direction that trades in 8-Bit visuals for a multi-dimensional experience more akin to modern video games. Though at some points the title will return to its aesthetic roots, the bulk of its running time (get it?) will take place in stunning 2.5D.

Little else appears to have changed in the progression of the series; the main character still runs without command, slides, and jumps through obstacles on their way to gold and bonuses scattered about the stage.

Runner 2 will be playable at PAX Prime, a convention opening its doors on August 31 and running until September 2, in Seattle, Washington. Those not in attendance will have to wait until 2013 to get their platforming fix on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
