Rumor: Leaked Screenshot Outs Prince of Persia Reboot
Few series in the comparatively short history of the video game industry have seen as many reboots as Prince of Persia. In the beginning, the game developed by Jordan Mechner was little more than a simple side-scrolling title built entirely around the imagery of the creator’s brother running and jumping about. Since then, the franchise has been completely altered to the point that it has spawned three completely separate sagas based around the iconic Prince. Based on a screenshot leaked earlier today, it appears that a fourth may be added to those hallowed ranks.
User blueobelix on Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia forums today posted a screenshot which he alleges to be from an unannounced reboot of the franchise. Not only does the image depict a darker, stronger prince, but it also appears to hint at the game’s working title as text towards the bottom of the picture indicates the file’s placement in a folder entitled POP_ZERO_2. In a post made earlier today, Joystiq furthered the name’s credibility as they indicated art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête’s usage of the name Prince of Persia Zero in an interview with CVG when discussing either 2008’s Prince of Persia or another spinoff that never saw the light of day.
Ubisoft has yet to issue a statement confirming or denying the validity of the image, but it appears clear that the return of Middle-Eastern acrobatics is nigh.
