Yoichi Wada Ends Rumors, Announces that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is Not Cancelled
When The Beatles first let loose their vocal artistry in The Long and Winding Road, it is widely assumed that they were waxing poetic about the development cycle of Final Fantasy Versus XIII; as a member of the Fabula Nova Crystallis series, the game was set to provide a more action-oriented take on the more traditional formula present in Final Fantasy XIII. Since being announced, though, nary heads nor tails has been seen of the title outside of small glimpses, a fact that, in recent days, gave credence to rumors declaring the product to be cancelled. Today, as reported by IGN, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada took to his personal Twitter page and declared rumors of the property’s death to be greatly exaggerated.
There’s someone making a false rumour that Versus was cancelled,” he said. “Haha… just a minute ago, the regular Versus meeting ended. If you saw the presentation of the city, it’d knock you off your feet – lol.
Reports of the game’s cancellation began last week after a post on Kotaku was made based off of information from anonymous tipsters. Thankfully, the rumors are, for the moment, little more than just that; Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still on the way for the PlayStation 3.
