A few interesting bits of news from the Mojang studio today.

First up, Markus “Notch Persson tweeted that Minecraft on XBLA has topped 3 million copies sold. The last milestone, 2 million, was reached in early June.

In other news, Texas tech0patent collector Uniloc has filed a suit against Mojang, Notch tweeted. The filing states that “Mindcraft” on Android infringes on Patent #6,857,067, “System and method for preventing unauthorized access to electronic data.”

“Unfortunately for them, they’re suing us over a software patent. If needed, I will throw piles of money at making sure they don’t get a cent,” Notch said. “Software patents are plain evil. Innovation within software is basically free, and it’s growing incredibly rapid. Patents only slow it down.”
