A common motto spouted in the mainstream is that life isn’t a race; it’s a marathon. If endless repetition isn’t enough proof of the saying’s merit, then Runescape is. Released in 2001, the free-to-play game today reached a milestone unlike any other: 200 million registered users.
Developer Jagex, a company based in the UK with nothing else to its name outside of a scrapped project and an upcoming MMO based in the Transformers universe, has elected to rightfully celebrate this unspeakably profound achievement with a commemorative website charting the title’s evolution and a stat-laden infographic comprised of such interesting tidbits as the fact that the phrase LOL is uttered by users ten times every second. The festivities extend into the game as well; for the next three days, Jagex has spawned a demon with 200 million hit points that can only be defeated with a unique weapon and that accordingly rewards players with a unique weapon upon being bested.
Runescape is a free-to-play game and can be accessed at its official website or through Facebook.
