Carmack, Panelists Announced For QuakeCon 2012

The Quake namesake might not carry the same weight that it did two decades ago, but its spawn, a LAN party and festival entitled QuakeCon, continues to bear the banner of the once-omnipotent PC-gaming industry. With the event merely a handful of weeks away, Bethesda Softworks today announced the return of John Carmack, co-founder and technical director of id Software, to the convention for his annual keynote address. Carmack will be far from the only major figure in attendance, though, as he will be joined by a slew of prominent panelists that includes id Software’s Marty Stratton, Insomniac Games President and CEO Ted Price, Valve Software’s Chet Faliszek and Tom Leonard, and GameTrailers TV host Geoff Keighley. A complete lineup of guest speakers and the panels that will be occupying will be made available in the near future, but, at this point in time, the list reads as such:

  • The Game of Making Games
  • Designing Multiplayer Games That Last
  • GameTrailers Bonus Round
  • Idle Thumbs Podcast Live: Arena

Outside of the keynote and panels, attendees will have access to a variety of exhibitions put on by many of the industry’s biggest names and the event’s most generous sponsors that includes the following:

  • AT&T
  • Intel Americas Inc.
  • DELL/Alienware
  • Ventrilo
  • Cyber Sports Net (CSN)
  • BAWLS Guarana
  • Cooler Master
  • CPU Magazine
  • FSP Group USA Corp
  • IN WIN Development
  • Interceptor Entertainment
  • Modders Inc.
  • Plantronics
  • Symbiote Studios
  • Adata
  • Minecraft PVP
  • Minecraft EDU
  • DeVry
  • Western Digital

In a showcase of their own, Bethesda Softworks and id Software will also be allowing those in attendance to get their hands on Dishonored, an upcoming game developed by Arkane Studios that puts players in the role of a supernatural assassin, and Doom 3 BFG Edition, the complete collection of the first-person shooter franchise that put the genre on the map as it is today.

QuakeCon 2012 will take place in Dallas, Texas at the Hilton Anatole Hotel from Thursday, August 2 until Sunday, August 5 and is free to the general public.
