Recently in an interview with GamesIndustry, Microsoft’s corporate VP Phil Spencer claimed that the Wii-U was similar to the XBOX 360 in graphical power. Satoru Iwata on the other hand is claiming that the console won’t be that far behind the next XBOX or the PlayStation 4. When speaking to investors Iwata had this to say:
…we can at least assure you that the Wii-U will not have such a big difference as the Wii had in comparison to how, on other platforms, developers could expect very different graphic capabilities of generating HD-applicable high-resolution graphics.
Other companies might launch a next-generation console with more power, but we don’t necessarily think that the difference between the Wii U and such console will be as drastic as what you felt it was between the Wii and the other consoles because there will be fewer and fewer differentiators in graphics.
It’s not that far fetched though, what Iwata is saying that is. There’s not much else that graphics can do for us right now. They’re as life like as it can get and unless you can make a console that is able to play FMV quality graphics. Some would argue that the Wii-U can not even compare to the next generation of consoles, and they may be right. However we won’t know until Microsoft and Sony officially announce their next generation consoles. Both companies are keeping their lips tightly sealed on the subject for now.
