Another studio is in jeopardy of closing.
Radical Entertainment, the creator of the Prototype franchise, was hit with “significant” layoffs, according to Activision.
“[We] have made a difficult conclusion through the consultation process that the only remaining option is a significant reduction in staff. Approximately 89 employees or less than 1.5% of our global workforce will be impacted,” the publisher told Joystiq.
Activision considered trying to sell the studio, but instead decided to lay off employees.
“Some employees will remain working for Radical Entertainment supporting other existing Activision Publishing projects,” Activision stated, “but the studio will cease development of its own games going forward.”
The decision was made after low sales of Prototype games.
“Although we made a substantial investment in the Prototype IP, it did not find a broad commercial audience,” the publisher said.
In the meantime, Prototype 2 will still launch on July 24 for PC.
