Microsoft Unveils Surface

After mass speculation and rumor, Microsoft finally unveiled their competitor for the iPad: Surface. Surface will have two versions, a Microsoft RT version with an ARM based system and a Windows 8 tablet that will use Intel chips. No mention of any XBOX 360 inclusion was made but with the announcement of Smart Glass at E3 a couple weeks ago I’m guessing that Smart Glass integration will be happening. No release date or price range has been announced either.

I’m hoping that this can actually compete against the iPad. I like iOS devices but Apple is digging themselves into the ground. They release a new and shiny toy every year or so without so much as an upgrade to it. Sure they boast better eye whatchacallits and some other thing but it’s not anything noticeable. Yet people are still so engulfed in our consumerist society that they have to have the latest thing despite it being the exactly same thing they bought previously. Microsoft would do well not to follow Apple’s business model and do something similar to the XBOX 360 where it has a lifespan. We will see what they do though…

Only thing I’m wondering is what took them so long.
