Nintendo seems to be floundering a bit with their next gen console. At first we heard that the Wii-U’s controller would not support multi-touch and now even worse news has come about. If you recall last week at E3 Nintendo said that their HD console would support two Wii-U controllers, well that functionality won’t be around at launch for either first or third party titles.
Reggie Fils-Aime said just as much to Gamasutra
Games need to be built that can take advantage of the two GamePad controllers. It’s going to be well after launch for those game experiences to come to life.
It seems that the support for two Wii-U controllers was a last minute thing and the games already in production do not have any functions for the second controller. Way to go Nintendo, if you had just decided to let up to four Wii-U controllers connect to the Wii-U then we wouldn’t have this problem. Oh well, I can settle for two…eventually. But wait…there’s more! Gamasutra also mentions Reggie stating that developers need to figure out how to make a second Wii-U controller work before incorporating a third. This could possibly mean that Nintendo plans on using more Wii-U controllers in the future if developers can figure out what to do with them. Let’s see how the cookie crumbles with this one dear readers.
