The existence of Dead Space 3 is what might be generously referred to as a poorly kept secret and less generously referred to as a foregone conclusion. That said, it wasn’t until yesterday that EA officially confirmed the title’s existence. Today, details surrounding the game became more concrete as EA revealed details in regards to its mechanics and setting.
Dead Space 3 once again puts players in the ironclad boots of Isaac Clarke, the hero of the first two games that this time finds himself on a frigid planet known as Tau Volantis. While stranded within the region’s icy confines, Clarke determines that it may be the key to fending off the Necromorph scourge. To uncover the secrets held within Tau Volantis, Clarke will need to fend off entire new breeds of Necromorphs and the franchise’s standard brand of enormous boss creatures. However, unlike in past entries into the series, this is a quest that does not have to be undertaken alone; Dead Space 3 allows for drop-in, drop-out cooperative play that sees users fighting off the alien infestation as a cohesive unit.
Dead Space 3 will itself crash land onto the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in February 2013.
