E3 2012: South Park: The Stick of Truth Emerges with DLC, First Trailer
Though the fact that a studio has sought to capitalize on the immense popularity of South Park is of little surprise, there is much about South Park: The Stick of Truth that is surprising: it’s being developed by Obsidian, a famed artist of the role-playing genre, and it has become such an anticipated product of the hardcore demographic that it even earned a showcase at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. Shown this morning in Los Angeles was a brief trailer summing up a selection of the game’s finer aspects, but it was away from the glitz and glamour of the show that even more details of the title were laid bare.
By preordering South Park: The Stick of Truth, players gain access to the game’s first set of downloadable content, the Good Times With Weapons Pack. As the title implies, ownership of this expansion grants the user with such fan service-laden items as the Bulrog Chicken Attack, Cartman’s Kick-Ass Sai, and a Samurai Costume built around a base of cardboard armor. Owners of Microsoft’s Xbox 360 are entitled to even more downloadable content, though, a selection of items and powers exclusive to the platform entitled the Mysterion Superhero Pack. With the perfect, heroic costume in tow, players will be able to unleash the Mysterion Special Attack and utilize the heralded Dagger of Cthulhu. In what can only be regarded as more good news for Microsoft’s console, all downloadable episodes made available for South Park: The Stick of Truth will launch first exclusively for the Xbox 360.
As for the game itself, South Park: The Stick of Truth will launch on March 5, 2013 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.
