Will Unreal Engine 4 Appear On Wii U?
Whether or not the Wii U will run Unreal Engine 4 is a subject of great interest amongst Nintendo fans. Being able to run the same engines as future next generation consoles will be essential to the Wii U’s success. Running the same engines as other next-gen consoles will mean easier ports and more third party support.
Hope for Unreal Engine 4 on the Wii U got a bit dimmer recently. As reported on WiiUBlog.com, when asked about the potential of Unreal Engine 4 on Wii U, journalist Geoff Keighley replied “No, at GDC Mike Capps said Wii-U will be Unreal Engine 3”.
So, no Unreal Engine 4 for Wii U? Well, not exactly. When asked for comment about Keighley’s comments, Epic replied “[The company] has not confirmed platforms for Unreal Engine 4 beyond PC”.
So, we don’t really know all that much more than we did this morning, but we have plenty of fuel for speculation. It’s quite possible that Geoff was simply mistaken or took a statement out of context. It’s also possible, and likely, that Epic is under an NDA and can’t confirm or deny anything. Take the comments as you will. All will be revealed at E3.
