Aliens Developer Confirms That Wii U Is More Powerful Than Current Consoles

Not too long ago, we heard from anonymous developers about how the Wii U will be less powerful than the X-box 360 and PS3.  Despite not making all that much sense, the rumor somehow made its rounds, even among more legitimate gaming websites.

Most named developers seem to indicate that the Wii U is indeed more powerful than current gen consoles.  In an interview with Gamespot, Randy Pitchford says in no uncertain terms, “The Wii U is a next generation console”.  He goes on to say, “It’s pretty clear to us that the best looking console version of Aliens: Colonial Marines is going to be on the Wii U”.

Exactly how much more powerful the Wii U is is still up in the air.  From the tone of the interview, I get the impression that Gearbox will not be pushing the Wii U to its limits, although Randy seems very excited about the Wii U console and its controller.  The interview is posted below for your viewing pleasure.  If you watch the whole thing, there is a lot of interesting information about Gearbox’s upcoming shooter.  If you’re only interested in the comments regarding the Wii U, head to 7:20.
