Assassin’s Creed III Targets Were Hard to Develop

To kill or not to kill, that’s the question that the development team for Assassin’s Creed III had to ask themselves while in production of the game. Alex Hutchinson, Assassin’s Creed III’s creative director, said as much in an interview with Penny Arcade.

It’s super difficult, this period, because no one famous dies. We have a rule: Everyone dies in the right year, at the right place. They have to be real people. We don’t get enough mileage out of it, I think it’s kind of magical, and yet no one knows. I don’t know how we make it more obvious.

Apparently no one of importance died in that time period so the team had to dig deep to find legitimate people to kill off. That wasn’t the end of their task though. They even wanted to make sure they were not killing off an ancestor of a player who could potentially be playing the game. Not that many people pay attention to their ancestry these days though. It still shows how dedicated the developers are.

Assassin’s Creed III launches in the North America on October 30th.
