Elder Scrolls Turning Into an MMO

The upcoming Game Informer Magazine has an interesting cover story – Bethesda is set to introduce The Elder Scrolls Online.

Wished by Elder Scrolls fans for years, Elder Scrolls is finally stepping into the MMO realm, as the game will put gamers in the land of Tamriel.

Game Informer says the game is being developed by Zenimax Online Studios and will feature an enormous world to explore, which is set a “millennium before the events of Skyrim”.  The story sees Prince Molag Bal trying to bring the land of Tamriel into his realm.

“It will be extremely rewarding finally to unveil what we have been developing the last several years,” said game director Matt Firor to the magazine. “The entire team is committed to creating the best MMO ever made – and one that is worthy of The Elder Scrolls franchise.”

The June issue will give gamers a deep look into the solo quests and dungeons that the public will be able to enter, as well as PvP conflicts between the three player factions over Cyrodiil and the Emperor’s throne.

The Elder Scrolls Online is said to be scheduled for a 2013 release on PC and Mac.

Score!

I hate to be the Grinch (thought that’s almost undoubtedly by role here), but is there anything at all that would make a studio think that an Elder Scrolls MMO is a good idea? Elder Scrolls isn’t successful because of its setting or its story, and I have a feeling that this fact will shine especially through when the MMO comes off as just another generic, fantasy MMO trying eagerly to win over a fan base that doesn’t want anything to do with it.

Personally, I’m not a huge MMO fan, so I’ll stick with Oblivion and Skyrim.

Actually, I beg to differ. I enjoy MMO/MMORPG games and the fact is there is a “massive” amount of people who are always seeking a good MMO game. The thing is Elder Scrolls is a perfect universe for an MMO. I have always believed that DC/Marvel, Lord of the Rings and Star Wars we natural fits for the MMORPG world. The biggest issue is cracking the addiction of WoW players. They have to make it a monthly subscription service like WoW and SW and offer Ventrillo services to go with it. This game has immense possibility and I for one will be checking it out.
