Xbox Fever (Apr 23)

Fridays are for pizza, Saturdays are for sleeping in late and Mondays are for Fever! It’s time for Fever! Let’s go!

Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter Save The Universe In Halo 4?!

says: Tom’s Guide

JDL: Microsoft’s John Dimiero has revealed that both Conan O’ Brien and his side-kick Andy Richter (does he seriously let people call him Conan O’Brien’s sidekick) will voice two characters working in a massive hanger aboard the “largest most powerful” starship in Halo’s existence. They will appear towards the end of the game.

Clearly thrilled to be in a Halo game, Conan asked for Halo armor in the style of one of his suits and wanted his face to appear in the helmet, but was denied. Conan also asked that his character be allowed to hold up a sign that says, “I’m Conan O’Brien,” but was told that his character would be carrying a weapon instead.

“I’m a clerk on a loading dock,” O’Brien said. “And I am a coward, I have a gun, but I don’t know how to use it. Just not [sic] your head if that’s the essence of it,” he told the two developers. They eventually nodded in agreement.

Conan and Andy are said to have had some fun with their roles thanks to a spot of improvisation. Recording comments like “I sure hate my life,” “I’m sorry, I didn’t hear what you were saying — I was peeing in my suit,” and “This is a pretty sweet union we’re in: stand near the crates but don’t ever move them,” sounds like a pretty sweet gig to me.

Chris: Here’s another snippet of rivveting dialogue.

Conan: I guess if we stand here long enough, someone will come along an kill us.

Andy: Who would be jerky enough to do that?

Conan: And, if they did kill us, I’m sure they’d show our bodies only the ultimate respect.

Andy: Yeah, no victory crouching on our faces!

Chris: One can only wonder what that means….? Find out for yourself on on November 6, 2012 when Halo 4 ships worldwide. JDL doesn’t care for Halo too much —

JDL: Hate it.

Chris: But I love it, baby! I think I’ll play some Halo Reach in the mean time.

Prototype 2 Won’t Do Well, Says Analyst

says: Video Gamer

JDL: Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz has predicted that Prototype 2 (which comes out tomorrow, April 24th) won’t sell as many copies as the first game. Try telling that to Dave Fracchia studio VP at Radical Entertainment.”We sold 2.1 million copies of the first game and our expectations are much higher for this one,” said Fracchia. “I would roughly say we’re looking at between 1.5 to two times [Prototype sales]. I would obviously like to see it higher than that.”

Chris: A bit of an over-achiever are we? Prototype sold it’s first 900,000 or so copies during its first year after its June 2009 launch, but Doug Creutz maintains that Prototype 2 be near this figure. Creutz has pointed out that the game has failed to break into Amazon’s top 100 games, which is “typically a bad sign for actual sales,” he says.

“We had been modelling the title to slightly exceed the 900,000 U.S. units the original title sold through during the year after its June 2009 launch,” he explained. “We now believe Prototype 2 could struggle to reach 500,000 first-year U.S. units.”

JDL: The first game was hugely popular and according to Penny Arcade “you can do a karate kick to a helicopter.” As long as the sequel has more of the same, plus some pretty graphics, I think Activision is in good shape.

Chris: I need more aerial martial arts, baby!

Microsofts Q3 Revenue
says: ABC News

JDL: While Microsoft’s overall revenue was up 6%, Xbox revenue was down 16%. Ouch. Microsoft blames the revenue lost on a “soft game console market,” but they’ve taken solace in the fact that the Xbox is currently the “market leader,” and has been for more than a year.

“We’ve really staked out a unique value proposition,” said Microsoft CFO Peter Klein. “We view Xbox Live as a persistent long-term revenue stream. We feel great about out leadership position.”

Chris: Microsoft is likely more concerned with bringing Windows Phones to more people’s attentions, especially with the launch of such phones as the Nokia Lumia 900 and HTC Titan II. Add to that fact, the fact that the number of apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace has doubled (no total number available) and you bet your buns that Microsoft will want everyone focusing on their phones.

JDL: So I take you’ll be getting a Windows Phone too?

Chris: Too expensive.

JDL: Cheapskate.

Trials Evolution Has Highest Gross Day Sales?

says: Game Guru

JDL: Microsoft has announced that Trials Evolution, an exceptional 2D platformer/racing game if Chris and I say so ourselves, has set the record for highest grossing first day sales in XBLA history. While exact numbers weren’t given out by Microsoft, developer RedLynx stated that the game was downloaded more than 100,000 times in it’s first twenty four hours. With other great titles (such as Bloodforge, Fable Heroes and Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition) on the way via Microsoft’s Arcade Next program, one wonders which game will sell the most.

Chris: Personally, I think Fable Heroes is gonna sell the most copies.

JDL: No way man, Minecraft 360 is going to take it.

Chris: Aw you’re just saying that ’cause all your kids play it!

JDL: Yeah and summer’s around the corner. No bedtime + lots of junk food + Minecraft = a fun 8 – 12 weeks for them, at the low, low price of 1600 MS points/$20 from Mom and Dad.

Chris: Hmm, good point.

That’s it for JDL and Chris, they’re off to workout at the gym and grab a protein shake —

HERE COMES A NEW CHALLENGER!

Unrelated to Xbox news, it’s —

Project X Zone Trailer!

says: JE Fusion

JDL: Project X Zone? Project Cross Zone? I’m not sure what to call it.

Chris: I’m calling it awesome!

JDL: Yeah, that’ll do. Looks like Capcom, Namco Bandai AND Sega are teaming up for a game about — well, we’re not sure yet. But c’mon, Sonic, Street Fighter and Super Sentai in one game! Y’think this means we’ll get Balrog and Knuckles on a tag team, Chris? Piloting a mecha, even?

Chris: You and that Balrog…. Maybe so, De Large, maybe so.

See you next week!

I’ve been hearing nothing but good things about Trials Evolution and it’s no surprise that they’ve done really good in sales. I knew some people who were waiting impatiently during the wee hours of the morning for it to pop up on XBLA. Might just end up buying it soon.

I also wonder if the Capcom X Namco Bandai X Sega would be released here in the states cause the previous Capcom X Namco wasn’t.
