Xbox Fever: The Late Edition (Apr 17)

JDL isn’t in too good a mood this week after taking an ill-advised detour to Albuquerque (hence this week’s delay), but Chris is quite happy and grounded this week. Let’s see how this article fairs with the roles reversed.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Coming Out September 2012?

says: RipTen

Chris: JDL, you liked Street Fighter X Tekken, right?

JDL: Sure, I guess. I prefer Ultimate Marvel, but SFXT wasn’t bad.

Chris: So are you excited for Tekken Tag Tournament 2?

JDL: Oh heck no, I don’t mess around with Tekken characters. Hugo and Abel, all day man! Gorilla Squad!

Chris: Well, Namco Bandai announced that Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be released this September 2012 for the 360 and less importantly, the PlayStation 3. Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will feature more than 50 playable characters, plus a “Pair Play” mode, which could be similiar to Street Fighter X Tekken’s “Scramble Mode” with 4 characters on screen at once, or it could be a little more orderly and have one player to one character, two at a time.

JDL: Hopefully, Scramble Mode keeps it’s mouth shut and stays on the SFXT disc. What a nightmare that mode is. I’ve had an easier time dodging attacks playing Touhou games.

Quake 4 Gets Re-release?

says: Uber Gizmo

Chris: Quake 4 has been on the Xbox 360 since November of 2005, and if you’re near a GameStop or a Play ‘N Trade, you can probably still find it in the used game section. But if you’re still having trouble finding it, worry not, Bethesda will be re-releasing the game. Oddly enough with all of the HD remixes and updated versions of games floating around, gamers might expect some kind of update or overhaul, better graphics or new content, but they will get — none. Thankfully, Quake 4 will only set gamers back around $19.99 and should be in stores by June 19th, 2012.

JDL: Psh, Quake 4? Gimme The Dishonored, Bethesda!

Chris: Didn’t you get an invite to go check it out in NYC?

JDL: Yeah, but my stupid job got in the way!

Chris: And you couldn’t have hooked a brother up with an invite?

JDL: Uh…. they have a strict NO OLD GUYS policy.

Chris: Damn! Every! Time! With that policy!

720/Durango Specs?

says: IB Times

Chris: Xbox 720/Durango fans (us included) have been looking forward to some confirmation regarding the new system’s specs. Rumors have been flying left and right about what the system includes and the latest rumors indicate that the Xbox 720 might come with a Blu-ray player and require a steady Internet connection, at least according to a report from VG247. The 720/Durango will also have two GPUs. “It’s like two PCs taped together,” a reliable source said to VG247. As for the graphics cards, they’re supposed to be equivalent to AMD’s 7000 series GPUs, but the cards won’t be structured like a normal dual PC-setup. Normally, the two chips take turns to draw lines of the same object, but with the 720/Durango, the graphic units will each work on drawing separate items.

JDL: Oh my God, it’s two PC’s taped together? The one tower I have now commandeers a quarter of my desk! Where the heckles am I supposed to put two PCs?

Chris: No idea, my good man. Maybe they’ll try to sell

Skyrim Gets Kinected?

says:Engadget

Chris: Skyrim is finally compatible with Microsoft’s Kinect which makes all of the cool things we’re about to mention Xbox exclusives. However, Bethesda says the forthcoming update will support more than 200 voice commands. Shout like Dovahkiin, use Follower Commands and summon equipment with Hotkey Equipping just like a Power Ranger! Gamers can also use Kinect to control in-game menus, contol save games and loading saves and managing Skryim progress. The complete command list will be unveiled shortly, but until then, the video above will give you a taste of what the Kinect and Skyrim can do together.

JDL: You forgot that the 1.5 Update is now available for the Xbox 360 AND PS3, you hack.

Chris: Oh my stars, I totally forgot! You can get a load of the what the 1.5 update will contain RIGHT HERE, BABY!

Out With MS Points This Holiday Season?

says: Ars Technica

Chris: Our last story —

JDL: Man, you’re getting on my last nerve. Go make me a protein shake with some peanut butter in it, I got this one.

So, LinkedIn has revealed that a Microsoft group product planner by the name of Praveen Rutnam has worked on a “strategy to further monetize Xbox LIVE subscriber base that will be implemented for holiday 2012.”

It’s impossible to say what exact form this monetization strategy will take, and Microsoft hasn’t immediately responded to a request for comment. That doesn’t mean we can’t start speculating wildly about it. Now that isn’t anything concrete per se and since it IS on the internet, it can always be false or a rumor, but why would someone LIE on their LinkedIn page?

Chris: For the same reason someone would post a humblebrag on Facebook.

Both: Attention!

That’s it for our heroes. JDL’s going to a bar and grill and Chris is going to go open up some grilles with bars. Don’t ask. See you next week.
