New Rock Band XBLA/PSN Title Coming This Summer

Harmonix announced today they are releasing a brand new game in the Rock Band canon called “Rock Band Blitz” for Xbox Live and PSN. The game is almost a sort of sequel to the PSP release “Rock Band Unplugged.” The game features 25 songs never before been featured in the Rock Band series and they can be exportable into RB 3 as well for free. The game features note highways similar to the instrument versions of RockBand, but is faster paced and has you switching tracks on the fly using the trigger buttons, or controller buttons and the joysticks.

The game also seems to give you power-ups that will knock down some of the notes for you. Blitz features all five instruments for you to switch to at any given moment, meaning which ever note track you are on at the time will be louder than the others.  The instrument tracks also have two different lanes to play different notes too.

RB Blitz will allow players complete access to their DLC library for extra songs, including RockBand Network songs and tracks exported from RockBand 1, 2, and LEGO, aside from the ones downloaded from the RB music store. However, since RB 3´s tracks are not on the actual hard drive they cannot be exported to RB Blitz. Just to clarify, Harmonix says they have no plans at this time to export RB 3 tracks to RB Blitz.

So, anyone wondering or complaining about there only being three new official Rock Band DLC tracks added to the RB Music Store each week for RB 3, here is your reason why. They had to make special changes to all of the old RB DLC in order to make it work for RB Blitz.

The first five songs announced from the setlist are:

  • “Bang Your Head” by Quiet Riot
  • “Jessie´s Girl” by Rick Springfield
  • “Pumped Up Kicks” by Foster the People
  • “Always” by Blink 182
  • “Once Bitten, Twice Shy” by Great White

Rock Band Blitz will come out this summer; Harmonix has stated any songs released for the regular Rock Band platform will also work with RB Blitz.
