Dust 514 Brings Free-To-Play Gaming To The PS3

Free to play games have been met with a great deal of success on PCs and Smart Phones.  Console developers have been slowly dipping their toes into the free to play water.  The latest experiment in free to play gaming is Dust 514.  Dust 514, being developed by CCP Games,  is a massively multiplayer online first person shooter (MMOFPS) in which players can interact with the persistent universe of EVE Online.

In addition to its pricing structure, EVE is notable for its unique version of cross platform play.  Dust 514 will allow players to interact with the universe of EVE Online.  The mercenaries of Dust 514 will be able to work with the starship pilots of EVE Online to wage battles, acquire territory, amass wealth, and build empire.

Developers and gamers alike will surely keep an eye on Dust 514 to see how this ambitious experiment turns out.  If Dust 514 is successful, it could profoundly influence game pricing in the future.  CCP games will be holding a hands on demonstration of the game at their EVE Fanfest.  This event takes place from March 22nd to March 24th in Reykjavik, Iceland.  If you happen to be in the area, you might want to check it out.
