Surely there are plenty of users on Facebook who happen to be fans of the Marvel universe and gaming in general.

Well today, Playdom is catering to both crowds, as the developer has just launched Marvel: Avengers Alliance on the social network.

Marvel Entertainment and Disney Interactive Media Group teamed up to publish the game while Playdom developed the tactical, turn-based game.

The future of Marvel games begins now.”

The game features dozens of Marvel characters, with players being able to recruit some of the biggest characters such as Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America, Thor and others.  Players will then train their heroes to unlock new abilities before taking on opponents in PvP showdowns.  Storywise, Marvel: Avengers Alliance takes place in Manhattan, after a galaxy-wide disaster called the “Pulse”, exposes the city to attacks by Marvel’s Super Villains. Players are then recruited as agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to assemble la team of Super Heroes to defend New York City from the likes of Doctor Doom, Magneto and Loki.

Playdom says that players can expect ongoing content releases such as new missions and storylines, new characters, new abilities, weapons and more.
