I’m John De Large and it’s a Monday which means Chris(topher Walken) has a fever. Xbox Fever!
It’s time for Fever! Here we go!
Lin-sanity Reaches a Fever Pitch (that’s the last time I’ll use the word Fever this week, I promise)
says: Just Push Start
JDL says: So everyone’s heard about Jeremy Lin, point guard for New York Knicks’, right? People are throwing around the buzz-word Lin-sanity like there’s no tomorrow and if you’re living in scenic New York, boot leggers are selling Lin-sanity t-shirts for half off. See, that’s how you know you’ve made it, when your name and likeness is half off on every corner in THE city, THE capital of the world. You know how else you know you’ve made it? You get your own Xbox LIVE avatar. 2K Games representative Ronnie 2K tweeted the following: “Jeremy Lin is getting an XBOX Live Avatar next week. Now that’s a testament to his rise….” The avatar should be available next week.
Chris says: Bah! So what? Until the avatar shop has soldering irons available for purchase, you won’t find me there, baby.
Microsoft vs. Motorola and Google 3, A New Age of Dispute
says: Game Bandits
JDL says: Microsoft is filing a complaint against Motorola (and by extension Google who bought them out), because they pose a threat that has been described as Motorola trying to “kill video on the Web.” To elaborate, Microsoft says that “Motorola is attempting to block sales of Windows PCs, Xbox game consoles, and other products,” since Motorola is claiming that it owns patents that let Microsoft users create and share video content through the internet. Meanwhile Microsoft states that the royalties Motorola is charging isn’t “remotely close to a reasonable price.” TL ; DR version, Motorola wants money, Microsoft isn’t too keen on giving them anything just yet. We’ll just have to wait and see who gets what and who kills who.
Chris says: What a bunch of ball-breakers! These two evil burglars known as Motorola and Google have crept through Microsoft’s window, and are snatching what is rightfully theirs, just like that piece of garbage tooth fairy — wait, do they understand the concept of the tooth fairy?
10th Annivesary Xbox 360 On The Way — In Europe
says: PC Mag
JDL says: Amazon France has announced that there will be a new Xbox 360 bundle available in Europe soon. The bundle will include a 250GB Xbox 360 Slim, a three-month Gold membership to Xbox Live and two wireless controllers. Sounds like pretty standard stuff, but gamers also get digital downloads of Gears of War 2, Fable 3, and Halo: Reach. Halo: Anniversary is also included with the bundle, but it’ll be on a regular disc. The 10th anniversary bundle launches on March 9, and will retail for 280.00 euros or $350 to $370 USD. No word on if the bundle is coming Stateside.
Chris says: Let them have their bundle and eat it too! Until these bundles start coming with Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or Skyrim, I’ll continue to play your 360, JDL.
JDL says: Last week, an Xbox Live update that fixed some color issues became available for download. The download also altered the quality of video playback. Now there’s a new patch in town one that’ll help gamers not fluent in English. “The team released an Xbox 360 system update to quickly fix some voice recognition issues affecting our non-English speaking members,” Microsoft’s Major Nelson confirmed. Microsoft has also said that the update is intended to utilize “behind the scenes stuff to keep Xbox Live the best experience possible”. These constant downloads might seem annoying, or like Microsoft doesn’t quite have their stuff together, but it sounds like they’re being really responsible to me. Good to see them patching things up!
Chris says: So I can’t speak Yiddish to your Xbox? I’d like to see what it does if I call it a shmuck when it doesn’t take me Youtube!
Jet Grind Radio Available Soon On PS3 and Xbox 360
JDL says: Yes! The only game that ever made roller-blading seem remotely cool is coming to the 360!
Chris says: Wow-wee-wow-wow-wow! Jet Grind Radio! That takes me back a few years!
JDL says: For a long time, there were only two ways that gamers could play Jet Grind Radio.
1) Find Dreamcast emulator and a Jet Grind Radio rom and hope both the emulator and rom didn’t suck and/or cause your computer to crash
2) Hit up Play and Trade and do things the old fashioned way.
But now, for what I’ll assume is 800 MS points at least and 1600 MS points at most, I can be reunited with Jet Grind Radio proper! For those not in the know (hang yourselves), Jet Grind Radio was a roller-blading, graffiti tagging, cop-dodging adventure with cel-shaded funky characters and Japanese urban environment with one of the most erratic but catchy soundtracks out there. Gamers, keep your eyes and ears peeled for a proper release date and an even better trailer. The best is yet to come!
Well, I’m tired — it’s been a long day of snowboarding and pizza, so I’m signing off. Questions or comments for me or Chris? Fire away in the comments section. Until next week, be good.
