Sega’s Game Gear didn’t exactly set the world ablaze when it launched in 1991, but, despite the overwhelming apathy that accompanied its release, the games belonging to the system have persisted well into the 21st Century. Popular titles from the handheld have been seen in compilations and digital releases across many consoles; now, the best of the Game Gear’s library will be featured on one more platform: the Nintendo 3DS.
Beginning on March 14 in Japan, as announced on Nintendo Direct, Sonic and Tails 2, Shinobi, and Dragon Crystal will be made available as the first Game Gear games on the 3DS eShop. Prices for these titles runs at a flat rate of 300 yen ($3.75).
A stateside release of the 3DS eShop’s Game Gear section is planned, but the launch date has yet to be specified.
