Miyamoto Enjoying His Work on Pikmin 3

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto, who recently noted that he was focusing on mentoring younger designers, described what it’s been like working on Pikmin 3.

“Originally, I was making Pikmin 3 would be launched on the Wii platform. Because the Wii U is capable of HD quality pictures, and will be accompanied by the subscreen on your hand. I thought that I would be able to make a Pikmin that was closer to my ideal. I am now actually enjoying myself, working on the game,” Miyamoto said.

Gamers have not seen a new Pikmin game since 2004, when the company released Pikmin 2 on the Gamecube.  And while Nintendo re-released the original game on the Wii as part of their New Play Control! series (seriously, can we get a few more of those?), fans have been clamoring for a new entry in the popular series.

It is expected that Nintendo will talk about the game at this year’s E3, which takes place from June 5-7 in Los Angeles.
