Wii U to Include an App Store
The new Nintendo console, the Wii-U, will include the addition of an app store according to several reports that came out today. The store will capitalize on the already-successful “Shops” that are used on the DS and Wii by adding video support and a variety of other applications.
The goal of the app store is to turn Nintendo into the next digital multimedia platform, and they may have a leg up on their competition thanks to the Wii-U’s 6.2″ touch screen controller. This will give it the distinct advantage of being able to use tablet-style apps, a market that none of the other consoles have touched yet. So once again, Nintendo has an idea seems crazy (controller with huge screen in the middle), but it’s just crazy enough to work.
