Despite receiving some fairly high marks in reviews, the PS Vita is struggling to move units. It’s initial release in Japan sold 325,000 of the handheld, but the second week numbers fell off a cliff. Sony only moved 72,000 in the week following the launch. This sets it behind in numbers from the launch of the PSP.
The bad Japanese release doesn’t mean it won’t do better when it comes to North America on February 22, but the response from Sony has been less than reassuring. When Bloomberg asked Sony PR head Satoshi Fukuoka about the sales, his response was “No comment.” Yeah, that says a lot more than anything else could have.
