Louvre To Use 3DS For Tours
Well, the Louvre museum is finally coming out of the dark ages and into the technological age. Operators of the Louvre have made a deal with Nintendo. Nintendo will provide the Louvre with 5,000 3DS units, most likely at a cost, which will come pre-packaged with content specifically for touring the Louvre. The head honchos at the Louvre hope that this move will make the museum more appealing to those of us who like shiny stuff and/or are technologically inclined.
I think this is such a wonderful step for the art world. It’s not as great as YouTube videos being shown in museums but it is still a step towards recognizing that the old just doesn’t always cut it anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I love museums. But if you want to get kids and teens excited about art, you need to level with them. This deal with Nintendo is one such way that museum owners can bring an air of fun to a boring museum tour. Let’s see what the Louvre does with these new tour guides and hope they do more with technology as the years go by.
